Meet Our Graduate Students

Meet Jelani Hannah

Short bio:
I am 6th year graduate student in the Physics department investigating soft matter research in the Jaeger Group. I was born and raised here in the city of Chicago. My aspirations are to both teach physics and commercialize transformative and sustainable technologies.

Who inspires you?
I am inspired by any individual despite adversity, opposition persevered to accomplish their goals as a result became a beacon of positive inspiration.

Why did you choose to study physics?
I chose Physics and Physics chose me however my choice was motivated to understand and discover the “nature of nature” and probe the parallels between physics, material, psychology, and spirituality.

Why did you choose UChicago?
I chose UChicago due to its departmental inclusive student support and academic and research resources and professional networks. I enjoy the holistic and academic support provided by my advisor and physics faculty and staff. My advice to incoming graduate students finish all your PhD qualifying classes as soon as possible and my advice to staff engage in a student faculty karaoke night monthly.
