Meet Anuj Apte

 
Short bio: 
I am Anuj Apte, a third year PhD Student in Theoretical Physics. Previously, I was an undergraduate at MIT where I studied Physics and Philosophy. I am interested in Quantum Many-Body Physics and its connections to Quantum Computing.

 

 

Who inspires you?
One of my biggest inspirations is John Von Neumann, who was able to contribute key ideas to Economics, Computer Science, Physics and Mathematics . I really admire his ability to distill a phenomenon to its mathematical essence.

What are you fans of?
I enjoy live music and going to concerts. After moving to Chicago, I have become started listening to a lot of Jazz.

Why did you choose to study Physics?
I chose to study Physics because it allows me to understand many physical phenomenon around me starting from a small set of theories.

Why did you choose UChicago?
UChicago Physics has a wonderful culture, and I found the professors and other graduate students to be very helpful.

What are the best things about your PhD program?
Some of the best things about the program are the simple pleasures such as enjoying Whiskey with fellow theorists, a tradition that goes back more than two decades.

What was the best surprise about UChicago or life in Chicago?
I was quite surprise by the size and diversity of Chicago. Exploring the different neighborhoods and restaurants is quite enjoyable.

If you could share any advise to your colleagues, what would it be?
Take care of your health, both physical and mental.
